Venice and its lagoon landscape are [...] the result of a dynamic process of interaction over time between humankind and the lagoon ecosystem and natural environment. Human intervention has been characterised by high technical and creative skills in hydraulic and architectural works in the lagoon area, which have made Venice a work of art and allowed it to exert a considerable influence on the development of architecture and the monumental arts.
